A quick orientation before you spin
Buffalo King is a 6-reel pokie with 4 rows, giving you 4,096 ways to win. That means winning combinations pay from left to right on adjacent reels, and there are no fixed paylines to worry about. The theme is the American wilderness, with buffalo, eagles and wolves as the main symbols.
Compared to a standard 5x3 pokie, the extra reel and row create more opportunities for wins, but they also make the game more volatile. The higher volatility means wins come less often, but when they do, they can be significantly larger. The game is built around a free spins feature that can be triggered by landing bonus symbols.
Setting up a spin: stakes and controls
To play Buffalo King, set your bet using the selector, which ranges from $0.40 to $60 per spin. The game is a 6x4 grid with 4,096 ways to win, meaning wins are formed by matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, with no fixed paylines. The paytable and game info are accessible via the info button, which also shows the RTP version. Use the spin button to start a round. There is no ante bet or bonus buy, so the bet range is your only stake option.
Free spins, multipliers and specials
The main feature is free spins. Landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 bonus symbols awards 8, 15, 25 or 100 free spins respectively. During free spins, you can retrigger by landing 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 bonus symbols, which add 5, 8, 15, 25 or 100 extra spins.
During free spins, wild symbols carry multipliers of 2x, 3x or 5x. When several wilds contribute to the same win, their multipliers multiply together, up to a maximum of 3,125x. For example, if two wilds with 5x and 5x multipliers land in a winning combination, the win is multiplied by 25x. There is no bonus buy feature in this game.
Session limits, bet sizing and the myths
Given the high volatility, you need to plan your session around the bet range of $0.40 to $60 per spin. For a $50 session, a sensible bet is around $0.50 to $1 per spin, giving you 50 to 100 spins. For a $200 session, you could go up to $2 per spin, which gives you 100 spins. This approach helps you ride out the dry spells that high-volatility games can bring.
There is no bonus buy or ante bet in this game, so you cannot pay extra to trigger features. No betting system changes the RTP; the game's return is set by the math. Set a budget for the session and stick to it.
What the RTP figure actually costs you
The default RTP for Buffalo King is 96.06%, but the game is available in three versions: 94.55%, 95.53% and 96.06%. The official Pragmatic Play page lists 96.06% as the default. If you play the 94.55% version, you can expect to lose an extra $1.51 per $100 wagered compared to the 96.06% version.
The maximum win is 93,750 times your stake. For example, a $1 bet could return $93,750. The RTP version is set by the casino, so check the game's info panel before you play to see which version you are getting.
Demo mode vs real money
The demo version uses play credits but operates with the same maths and RTP version as the real-money build at the casino you open it in. Given the high volatility, a demo session is useful for seeing how often free spins trigger and how the wild multipliers behave, without risking real money. You can also test how different bet sizes feel across the range. When playing with real AUD, bets are real and limits matter, so use the demo to set expectations before committing funds.

Verdict
Buffalo King suits players who enjoy high volatility and the potential for large wins, especially in free spins. It is not ideal for those who prefer frequent small payouts or who have a limited bankroll. One honest downside is the lack of a bonus buy, which means you cannot skip straight to the feature.
